LIFT and the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) have launched structured pedagogy routines, decodable Kinyarwanda books, and continuous school-based coaching across seven districts.

We seek to empower over 310,000 primary school learners across seven districts in Rwanda to acquire essential literacy and mathematics competencies by 2030, with deliberate priority given to girls, children with disabilities, and those most at risk of falling behind.
Working directly through the Ministry of Education, the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB), and district education authorities, our goal is to sustainably strengthen school-based coaching, provide high-impact decodable reading materials, and embed universal safeguarding into daily school culture.

Through our partners, we implement structured literacy, mathematics, and disability-inclusive interventions in over 640 public and government-aided primary schools.
LIFT coordinates field hubs across seven focal districts in Rwanda: Gakenke, Gasabo, Gisagara, Karongi, Kirehe, Ngororero, and Rusizi.
We focus on foundational competencies: Kinyarwanda early reading, English transition, universal disability screening, and school safeguarding.
Our research generates rigorous classroom evidence and diagnostic insights to guide curriculum delivery, teacher coaching, and national foundational learning policy across Rwanda.

Bringing together district education officers, headteachers, and sector specialists from across Rwanda to share evidence-based coaching, structured pedagogy, and classroom diagnostic breakthroughs.

Grounded in Rwandan classroom realities, this programme empowers school-based coaches and mentor teachers to provide weekly constructive feedback, model decodable reading routines, and foster inclusive, supportive classrooms.
A flagship initiative supporting out-of-school children and youth to rebuild basic literacy and numeracy skills, establishing flexible remedial pathways that enable confident, sustainable reintegration into formal education.

Our longitudinal evaluations highlight the power of high-frequency formative assessment, decodable text availability, and district-level peer learning networks in boosting early-grade reading comprehension across both rural and urban contexts.
Our programming approach is rooted in co-creation with the Ministry of Education, REB, and civil society partners. We focus our efforts on areas where we can achieve the most equitable and sustainable impact at scale.
